BYD unveils new electric commercial vehicle lineup at German expo with up to 373-mile range and 1.5 MW charging

Chinese automaker BYD has unveiled its advanced electric commercial vehicle lineup at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hanover, Germany. The range includes a heavy-duty tractor trailer offering up to 373 miles (approximately 600 km) of range and 1.5 MW charging capability. Unveiled at IAA on September 14, the lineup targets urban delivery, municipal operations, regional transport and long-distance logistics. IAA is an international trade show organized biennially by the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), serving as a platform for the commercial vehicle, logistics and transport sectors.

BYD's electric commercial vehicle ecosystem

BYD combines its vehicles with charging infrastructure, energy storage, energy management and financial services to support fleet electrification, forming a complete ecosystem. The flagship of the lineup is a 4×2 electric tractor trailer called the ETT 44, designed to haul a combined weight of up to 48.5 tonnes. Developed from the ground up on a dedicated electric platform, the vehicle features a 651 kWh blade battery operating on an 851-volt architecture. Its powertrain produces approximately 733 hp under rated conditions, with peak output of around 986 hp.

BYD claims the tractor can cover up to 373 miles on a single charge, positioning it for regional and long-haul freight operations.

A standard CCS2 DC charger delivers up to 420 kW of charging power, taking the battery from 20% to 80% in roughly an hour. The company's megawatt charging system pushes charging power above 1.5 MW and shortens the same charging session to about 20 minutes. BYD executive vice president Li Xiaohua said: "We have already practiced flash charging in passenger cars. Today we bring this technology into commercial vehicles, starting with our tractor trailer. At 1.5 MW charging power, around 20 minutes to 80% can deliver up to 248 miles of range.

Less charging time, more driving time."

BYD offers a standard 10-year or approximately 746,000-mile extended warranty on the tractor's blade battery. The company says this exceeds the base vehicle and battery warranties typically offered in Europe, where extended coverage is usually available at additional cost. The heavy-duty model also comes with a driver-centric cab and a suite of assistance and safety technologies, including adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist and blind-spot detection, all fitted as standard.

Alongside the flagship tractor, BYD showcased 4×2 and 6×2 rigid trucks, including swap-body and hook-loader variants, as well as the E-Vali light commercial van and the EYT 2.0 electric yard tractor. The lineup spans approximately 3.9 tonnes to 48.5 tonnes of transport capacity, covering urban delivery, distribution yards and heavy on-road operations.

A vertically integrated operating model

BYD presented the lineup around the concept of total cost of mobility, treating vehicles, energy consumption, electricity prices, charging infrastructure, operations, lifecycle management and financing as parts of a single system. Its vertically integrated approach brings together vehicle development, blade batteries, megawatt chargers, energy storage and energy management. BYD says this model reduces operational complexity, improves uptime and accelerates the path to profitable electric fleets.

BYD's commercial vehicles already operate in more than 100 countries and over 400 cities. As it expands its European product range, the company is positioning itself as a single supplier for both electric commercial vehicles and the energy infrastructure required to run them.
