Agility Robotics officially launched Digit 5 on September 15. The 5-foot-11-inch humanoid robot is designed to move materials alongside humans in warehouses and manufacturing facilities. Weighing 284 pounds, the robot can repeatedly lift 50-pound objects and recharge in nine minutes. Digit 5 was developed based on three years of customer experience with Digit 4. Responding to customer demands for greater payload, longer operating time, and the ability to deploy the robot without isolating it from workers, Agility redesigned its hardware, power systems and safety architecture.
Digit 5 design improvements
One of the most visible changes in Digit 5 is the removal of the backward-bending, bird-like legs associated with the previous generation. The new leg design is more human-like, allowing the robot to squat, pick up goods and kneel without striking its ankles. Digit 5 uses proprietary cycloidal actuators, and redesigned joints help it move large items during a work shift while increasing payload capacity by 40%, enabling it to repeatedly handle objects weighing up to 50 pounds. When the robot kneels, its knee pads provide support, and it can also assume a seated position with its motors turned off, allowing workers to approach it more safely.
Digit 5's reach has increased from 5.5 feet to 7.2 feet. Despite the additional reach, the robot remains compact enough to pass through standard doorways and operate in facilities built for humans. Its battery provides 90 minutes of operating time before recharging is required. A nine-minute charging cycle enables Digit 5 to work more than 20 hours per day, provided it can return to a charging dock regularly. The back of the machine houses a charging port, a safety display, an emergency stop button and a camera.
Cameras, depth sensors and inertial units located throughout the robot detect people, helping it decide whether to change direction, stop or enter a seated position.
Safety standards and partners
Agility says Digit 5 is the first humanoid robot designed to comply with OSHA industrial safety standards. The company is also involved in developing humanoid robot safety standards in the United States, Canada and at the ISO level. NVIDIA is the first partner for Digit 5's safety stack, and Agility is using NVIDIA's IGX Thor and Halos for Robotics platforms to develop new safety controllers and certification pathways.
The robot features 30 motors, with motor-level control running at approximately 1,000 cycles per second. Its ISO-standard gripper can be swapped for other tools, including a claw-style hand developed for handling large boxes.
Agility Arc connects Digit to warehouse or production systems, coordinating its work with conveyors and autonomous mobile robots. This combination could allow a single machine to perform tasks ranging from depalletizing to palletizing. As of May 2026, Agility has reported over $300 million in conditional commitments for Digit 5, with early access planned for the first half of 2027, followed by broader availability later that year. Production will take place at the company's 70,000-square-foot RoboFab facility, which can produce up to 10,000 robots per year.
