UiPath released a report titled "Beyond the Bot: Orchestrating the AI-Powered Enterprise" on September 11, 2026, which delves into the current state of AI agent deployment and business orchestration. This global survey included 590 C-level executives and IT professionals from large enterprises and revealed that, despite initial proof-of-concept successes, many companies are still stuck in the pilot phase and struggle to scale AI applications across their organizations.
Challenges Revealed by the Survey
The survey results indicate that fewer than one-third (31%) of respondents have fully integrated AI into their operations. Further analysis shows that only 35% of enterprises have adopted AI in a limited capacity within specific teams, while 11% are still in the pilot stage, conducting limited experiments. In Hong Kong, as financial regulators expand the local "GenA.I. Sandbox++" program, companies face the same global "pilot purgatory" challenge when scaling these projects.
The Solution of Business Orchestration
UiPath's survey data shows that business orchestration is the key solution to these challenges. The survey noted that among respondents who have fully integrated orchestration capabilities across their enterprise, 89% reported that their AI agent deployments met or exceeded their return on investment expectations. The specific benefits these companies experienced include:
- Allowing employees to spend more time on high-value tasks (51%)
- Improving integration between applications (47%)
- Enhancing oversight and management of business workflows (44%)
- Increasing response speed to customers (42%)
- Achieving automation of complex business workflows (37%)
The next 12 months will be a period of significant growth for AI agents in global enterprises. More than one-third (36%) of respondents expect AI agents to play a major role in enterprise workflows. The majority (52%) of respondents stated that they are applying AI to "hybrid" workflows that combine static and dynamic processes.
However, only 29% of enterprises currently report that orchestration functions are fully integrated into their workflows. Companies that prioritize orchestration will lay a solid foundation for success in the next era of AI agents.
