Volvo Trucks has begun production and delivery of its latest generation of electric trucks, capable of traveling up to 435 miles on a single charge. The first vehicles rolled off the company's Tuve plant in Gothenburg following the series launch in April 2026. These new models are designed to apply battery-powered transport to a broader range of regional, construction, and long-haul tasks. Production will take place at Volvo's manufacturing facilities in Gothenburg and Ghent, Belgium, with the trucks delivered to customers worldwide.
Breakthrough technology enables sustainable transport
The new e-axle makes the 435-mile range possible. The flagship model is the Volvo FH Aero Electric, which offers extended range. Its new e-axle provides additional space for batteries, helping the truck achieve a maximum range of up to 435 miles per charge. The FH Aero Electric also supports megawatt charging and offers high payload capacity. According to Volvo, this combination allows operators to deploy electric trucks on routes that have historically relied on diesel-powered vehicles.

New models meet diverse needs
The electric range expands to four models. Alongside the extended-range FH Aero Electric, Volvo is also producing the next generation of FH, FM, and FMX Electric trucks. These models feature an all-new electric driveline designed to improve energy efficiency, productivity, and driving performance. The FH, FM, and FMX models can travel up to 292 miles, offering options for different transport needs. Volvo's broader electric portfolio now spans eight models suitable for city delivery, waste handling, construction, regional operations, and long-haul freight.
"The customer reaction has been very positive, and we are seeing high interest in orders for the new trucks. With longer range, maximum flexibility across different applications, and superior driveability, choosing electric is easier than ever," said Roger Alm.
This new series will also be showcased at the IAA Transportation show in Hanover from September 14 to 20. The new electric trucks can handle weights of up to 88 tons. Volvo has also introduced an electric truck designed for rigid truck and trailer combinations capable of carrying up to 88 tons. This configuration targets markets that frequently transport loads exceeding the European average weight. At a gross weight of around 71 tons, the truck can travel up to 280 miles on a single charge. When operating at a gross weight closer to 82 tons or 84 tons, its range reaches approximately 261 miles, which is permitted in Sweden and Finland.
The truck is equipped with batteries providing 640 kWh of usable energy and supports the megawatt charging system as well as CCS2 charging. "We are proud to launch this zero-emission truck specifically designed for heavy loads and long distances, and combined with fast-charging capability, we believe many customers will be interested in this new truck," said Jan Hjelmgren, Senior Vice President of Volvo Trucks.
Sales will begin in six European markets, with the FH Electric rigid truck rolling out gradually from early 2027.
