Google Cloud announced at the Gemini at Work 2026 conference the launch of a universal intelligent agent for enterprise work, which can handle tasks such as Q&A, knowledge work, content creation, and code writing and execution through a single interface, and can invoke internal enterprise tools and data to autonomously complete user-defined goals.
According to Google Cloud, the intelligent agent is positioned as a "universal work agent for enterprise work," allowing users to complete multiple types of work tasks through a unified conversation window without switching between different tools. Gemini can directly integrate with Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Chat, and Calendar, and supports the creation of "colleague agents" with independent identities and permissions. This integration capability is built on the existing Google Workspace ecosystem foundation.
Gemini intelligent agent to become key tool for enterprise digital transformation
Previously, Gemini for Google Workspace already supported direct interaction with third-party tools such as Asana, Atlassian Rovo, HubSpot, Intuit Mailchimp, Intuit QuickBooks, Monday, and Salesforce through the Model Context Protocol, allowing users to access information without switching tabs or downloading files.
The universal Gemini intelligent agent can operate in different configurations, serving either as a personal assistant for an individual employee or as a persistent digital colleague with shared team responsibilities. Google Cloud stated that the agent supports the creation of "colleague agents" with independent identities and permissions, capable of running tasks long-term, enabling AI to truly become a manageable "digital member" of enterprise teams.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian previously stated when introducing the Gemini Enterprise platform that the platform is built on secure and comprehensively governed infrastructure, with customer data, business rules, intellectual property, custom agents, and model outputs all retained within their organization and kept completely confidential, ensuring that risk management, audit logs, and governance mechanisms are natively built into the platform architecture.
