Tesla's new car registration figures in Germany saw a significant rise in October, nearly quadrupling compared to the same month last year. According to data from the German Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), a total of 2,932 Tesla vehicles were registered in October, marking a year-on-year increase of 290.9%. In the first ten months of this year, Tesla's cumulative registrations reached 47,742 vehicles, a growth of 206.1% compared to the same period in 2025. This growth occurred against the backdrop of a robust increase in the overall battery electric vehicle (BEV) market, which registered 94,086 new BEVs in Germany in October, an increase of 79.5%, giving BEVs a 37% share of the passenger car market among a total of 254,492 registered vehicles that month.

Despite the significant percentage increase, Tesla's absolute numbers accounted for only 1.2% of the new car registrations in October. In contrast, Chinese competitors performed more prominently, with BYD registering 5,173 vehicles for a market share of 2%; Leapmotor registered 3,661 vehicles, equivalent to 1.4%; while Xpeng held a 0.5% market share. Year-to-date through October, BYD's registrations reached 47,961 vehicles, slightly surpassing Tesla's 47,742 vehicles.

Tesla's market share in Germany gradually increases

The results for October follow Tesla's strong performance in September, when 12,552 vehicles were registered, reflecting an annual increase of about 269%, and marking one of the company's strongest monthly totals in Germany's history. That month, the Model Y also became the best-selling electric vehicle and ranked among the top-selling vehicles across all powertrains. These figures are part of a larger context of Tesla's registration recovery in Europe, following a period of weaker demand. Although monthly sales continue to be influenced by quarter-end patterns and competitive pressures from established European brands and rapidly expanding Chinese manufacturers, the year-to-date growth indicates that Tesla is gaining a better market share in Europe's largest automotive market.

Tesla's Berlin-Brandenburg Gigafactory continues to supply the region, enabling the company to secure a foothold in Germany's expanding BEV market, as the overall adoption rate of electric vehicles accelerates.
