China's IC Industry Profits Surge 18.5-Fold in Jan-July, Driven by Computing Power Demand

Newly released industrial economic performance data from the National Bureau of Statistics shows that as the "AI+" initiative accelerates and computing infrastructure construction continues to advance, the profits of the integrated circuit (IC) industry, represented by computing chips and memory chips, have seen explosive growth in the first seven months of this year. Profits surged 18.5 times year-on-year, becoming the core engine driving the growth of industrial enterprise profits.

IC Becomes the Primary Support for Electronics Industry Profit Growth

Yu Weining, chief statistician of the Industrial Department of the National Bureau of Statistics, stated that the continuous expansion of computing power demand has led to a simultaneous increase in both the volume and price of related products. This has propelled the profits of the electronics industry, which is closely related to AI production and application, to maintain rapid growth. Data shows that from January to July, the profits of the national-scale electronics industry increased by 110% year-on-year, contributing 9.3 percentage points to the growth of all national-scale industrial enterprise profits. This makes it the primary support for the growth of national-scale industrial profits. Among these, the IC industry, represented by computing chips and memory chips, contributed to over 80% of the profit growth in the entire electronics industry.

Computer Hardware and Peripheral Manufacturing Sectors Shine

In the breakdown of industry sectors, the manufacturing segments closely related to computing centers, servers, and terminal computing also performed impressively. From January to July, the profits of the computer hardware manufacturing, computer peripheral equipment manufacturing, and industrial control computer and system manufacturing industries increased by 3.3 times, 2.5 times, and 1.6 times, respectively.

Meanwhile, the upstream materials and component manufacturing sectors of the semiconductor industry have also seen a comprehensive acceleration. In the fields of electronic device and electronic component manufacturing, the profits of the electronic specialty materials manufacturing industry increased by 226.8% year-on-year, the semiconductor discrete device manufacturing industry grew by 45.8%, and the electronic circuit manufacturing industry saw a profit increase of 37.1%. This forms a coordinated growth trend across the entire industry chain, from upstream semiconductor materials, to midstream core chips, and downstream complete systems.
