Anthropic Launches Claude Duet App to Enhance Professional Efficiency
Key Points
  • Claude Duet can handle to-do lists and monitor accounts to improve work efficiency.
  • The app runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and requires joining a waitlist for access.
  • Claude Duet can schedule meetings and prepare financial forecasts, covering a wide range of tasks.
  • Anthropic emphasizes safety measures to prevent the leakage of sensitive information.

Anthropic aims for Claude to go beyond simply answering questions. Its new app, Claude Duet, can manage users' to-do lists, monitor connected accounts, and prepare deliverables without the need for constant commands. This research preview targets professionals and small business owners, aiming to help them manage heavy workloads. The idea is to provide an assistant that can determine when to ask questions and when to handle routine tasks independently. Anthropic describes this approach as a matter of judgment, rather than merely executing commands.

The app runs on Claude Opus 5.5 and can be accessed via iOS, Android, and claude.ai. Currently, access to the app requires joining a waitlist. The preview is included in Pro and Max subscriptions, sharing existing usage limits.

Features and Applications of Claude Duet

Claude Duet operates with its own virtual machine and browser when performing unattended tasks, allowing it to continue running after the user has left the device. Users can assign a project before leaving and then check the completed results or pending requests upon their return. Its task scope extends far beyond organizing inboxes. Claude Duet can schedule meetings, prepare financial forecasts, create dashboards, prototype products, and develop web applications. It can also check connected accounts every few hours and send notifications when items require attention.

This monitoring schedule is crucial, as constant checks will deplete subscription limits more quickly. Users can also specify what content warrants notifications and how frequently the assistant should reach out to them.

Boris Cherny, who leads the Claude Code team at Anthropic, uses the app to organize his mental to-do list while walking. Chelsea Larsson assigns tasks to Claude Duet before spending time with her children, allowing it to prepare evening report results for her. The app can access over 6,000 connectors and plugins through Claude Marketplace, enabling workflows across communication, finance, recruitment, marketing, and online retail.

Claude Duet can search for unanswered Gmail messages, draft replies, and identify unpaid invoices in QuickBooks or Stripe. It can prepare payroll details in Gusto and draft job listings for LinkedIn. Teams can also use it to prepare agreements via DocuSign or create campaigns in Canva. Retailers gain access to Shopify management tools, with plans for a richer store editor in the future.

Safety Measures and User Control

Anthropic also supports purchases through Stripe's Link wallet and Shopify's Shop Pay, with plans to integrate with saved 1Password logins. Granting software access to business accounts raises significant control concerns. Anthropic states that Claude Duet must display its suggested actions to users before sending information, making payments, signing documents, or deleting data. Even with user approval, certain actions remain prohibited, including securities trading and transfers between accounts.

Users can disconnect the app at any time. Anthropic has also implemented safety measures to prevent malicious commands, including a dedicated classifier and system prompts to limit the disclosure of sensitive information. The system blocks requests to share highly confidential details, such as credit card numbers and government identification. Disclosure involving health or personal finances is only permitted with explicit user authorization. The company states that its security infrastructure has undergone external penetration testing and adversarial exercises. Claude Duet is also part of Anthropic's public bug bounty program.

Currently, this research preview will test whether the assistant can reliably distinguish between tasks that should be handled and those that still require human decision-making.

Enhancing Work Efficiency While Ensuring User Safety

The launch of Claude Duet marks a further application of artificial intelligence in professional workflows, capable of automating multiple tasks and thereby reducing users' workload. This not only enhances work efficiency but also allows users to focus on more creative tasks. However, as the app gains access to business accounts, security becomes a significant concern. Anthropic's protective measures for sensitive information demonstrate its commitment to user safety, which is crucial for building user trust.
