- Tesla's Full Self-Driving has become the core of the new referral program.
- Users can receive up to one year of free FSD subscription through referral codes.
- The new program makes referrals more accessible, without the need for a large network.
- Full Self-Driving data is crucial for improvements to the package.
Tesla's Full Self-Driving (FSD) has now become the centerpiece of the company's newly revised referral program, which launched on October 29. The new program no longer focuses on encouraging vehicle purchases and rewarding referrers with US$250 (approximately HK$1,950) in Tesla credit, but instead promotes subscriptions to Full Self-Driving. If a Tesla owner is trying out FSD and subscribes using a referral code, the person using that referral link will receive one month of FSD (supervised version).
The code can be used 12 times per year, with a reset date of January 1. Essentially, this means that if your referral code is used by 12 Tesla owners currently trying FSD, you will receive a full year of FSD for free.
New Program Referral Mechanism
Under Tesla's new referral program, when someone subscribes to FSD using your link, you will receive one month of free service, with a maximum of one year of free FSD. The previous program made obtaining referrals quite difficult; purchasing a vehicle was clearly a greater financial burden than subscribing to one month of Full Self-Driving. Of course, the previous referral program also offered tangible benefits: US$250 (approximately HK$1,950) in credit, which could be used for services, supercharging, or any merchandise in the Tesla store, effectively covering a whole year of travel expenses.
Recently, I used that credit to buy a new backpack and a T-shirt.
Impact on Users
However, this new program has become more accessible for users in the Tesla community who do not have a large number of friends. This means they no longer need to have an extensive network to maximize the subscription volume from vehicle purchases. Many users are also sharing their referral links on social media for others to use. The Full Self-Driving package will become the cornerstone of the referral program, making it more inclusive and engaging for everyone, along with additional benefits. It also gives the impression that Tesla is indeed focusing on FSD subscriptions, which was significantly reflected in the growth figures for the third quarter, where 75% of deliveries included an FSD subscription.
Full Self-Driving data is crucial for improvements to the package, so this program is beneficial for both Tesla and consumers.
Marketing Strategy for Full Self-Driving Subscriptions
Tesla places Full Self-Driving FSD at the core of the referral program, demonstrating its emphasis on the subscription model. This strategy not only attracts more users to subscribe to FSD but also expands its market influence through social media promotion. For users without extensive social networks, this program lowers the participation threshold, allowing more people to enjoy the benefits of FSD. This move not only enhances user experience but also promotes further development of Full Self-Driving technology, as more user data will help optimize the performance of the technology.
