Tesla Robotaxi app update introduces vehicle selection interface providing real-time ride choice information

Tesla has launched a new vehicle selection interface in its Robotaxi app, presenting passengers with the most relevant data before booking. According to a video shared by @gheeunit on the X platform on November 7, app version 26.11.0 shows estimated arrival times, expected wait times, and current availability for each vehicle option, all displayed on a single interface. Passengers can now compare this data side by side when choosing between Cybercab and Model Y Robotaxi, without needing to select a vehicle first to understand the required time.

Tesla first offered this option to passengers on September 3, when paid Cybercab rides began operating in Austin. The initial interface listed the two-passenger Cybercab and the four-passenger Model Y. A later version, 26.8.2, added seat capacity indicators to help users understand which vehicle suits their group. However, it previously did not indicate whether choosing a Cybercab meant waiting a few extra minutes on the roadside.

This issue is now more significant than it was two months ago. At the start of rides, Tesla had 45 Cybercabs on the DMV list in Texas. By the end of October, the state’s list showed 573 Cybercabs, along with 631 Model Ys, while community trackers recorded a record 1,576 Cybercab sightings in Austin on Halloween. With both fleets sharing a service area, the most recent vehicle and the fastest pickup are not necessarily the same vehicle.

Tesla will continue to improve the passenger experience in the Robotaxi app

Additionally, real-time availability has changed the situation during demand surges. If no Cybercabs are available nearby, passengers can see this on the selection interface, rather than discovering it after attempting to book. Currently, this comparison feature is primarily available in Austin. Passengers in Dallas, Houston, Fort Worth, and Florida markets are still paired with Model Y vehicles, although Tesla stated during its third-quarter earnings call that Cybercab availability will launch in Dallas this month. This update comes amid ongoing improvements to the passenger experience.

At the end of last month, Tesla introduced a silent mode for Model Y Robotaxis, which blacks out the cabin screen. This feature was initially tested in Cybercabs and has extended service hours in Austin to 6 AM to 2 AM.

As the selection interface for Cybercabs is set to become busier, Elon Musk stated this week that Tesla will cease Cybertruck production at its Gigafactory in Texas around mid-2027 to free up more capacity for Cybercab production, and expressed hopes to deliver Cybercabs to customers by the end of this year. Tesla has not yet released the official update log for version 26.11.0.
