- Tesla released a new video showcasing the aerial stunt performance of the Roadster.
- The video features the Roadster's airborne jumps and rotations.
- All tests were conducted at SpaceX's testing facility in Texas.
- Musk stated the goal is to begin production of the second-generation Roadster in 2028.
Tesla recently released a new perspective video capturing the stunning stunts performed by the next-generation Roadster during its unveiling on October 15, allowing fans to intuitively experience the car's airborne jumps and rotations, alongside other models from the company. Tesla today released this approximately 30-second video on the X platform, titled "POV You Are a Flying Car," showcasing an unprecedented angle of the Roadster. The video is incredible: it depicts an unmanned prototype launching its cold gas thrusters, taking off from the ground, and performing a full inversion roll in the air, passing over a lineup that includes Model 3, Model Y, Cybercab, Cybertruck
and Tesla Semi.
Roadster's Aerial Stunt Performance
Following the unveiling, Tesla shared images of the vehicle to help viewers better understand what they were seeing. The video also features other captivating highlights, including a demonstration of steering up an inverted ramp. The Roadster climbs using its bottom air suction system and then locks into the inverted position on the ramp. This generates multiple G-forces of downforce, which allows the Roadster to release these systems for aerial rotation. The vehicle gently lands back on its wheels, with the thruster's vapor providing a perfect cushion.
All tests were conducted at SpaceX's testing facility in McGregor, Texas, which was also the site of the unveiling, and all maneuvers were automated. Elon Musk stated this was done for safety reasons. Tesla showcased what the Roadster driver sees before the thrusters are activated. Tesla's vehicle engineering chief Lars Moravy referred to the aerial rotation as a "kickflip," while Musk jokingly remarked that Tony Hawk would be proud, noting that the car could even surpass more fleets.
These thrusters use high-pressure compressed air and rapid electric actuators to provide the precise short bursts of force needed for launch and controlled rotation; the same hardware is expected to be applied to the production versions of the higher-end Thrust and Rocket models.
Production Plans and Future Outlook
The second-generation Roadster was first revealed in 2017, but production has faced delays. Musk pointed out that the goal is to begin production in 2028. While the company has not announced complete pricing or independent performance validation, the extreme acceleration, ground effect suction, and limited flight capabilities have made this vehicle one of the most dramatic electric vehicle unveilings in years. Musk also stated that Tesla plans to establish a dedicated testing runway in Texas so future owners can experience these maneuvers away from public roads.
This new POV video allows others to experience part of this sensation from the vehicle's perspective.
Innovative Technology and Future Potential of the Tesla Roadster
Tesla's latest Roadster showcases its innovative capabilities in the electric vehicle sector, particularly in aerial stunts. This not only enhances the brand's image but also attracts widespread attention. Through high-pressure thrusters and automation technology, the Roadster can achieve unprecedented performance, demonstrating the potential of future electric vehicles. Although the production timeline remains uncertain, the vehicle's unique performance and design will undoubtedly mark a significant milestone in the electric vehicle market and lay the groundwork for future technological advancements.
