Meta Releases Personal AI Agent Muse for Online Shopping and Itinerary Planning

Meta has officially launched its personal AI agent, Muse. Unlike traditional AI assistants, Muse is positioned as a "user-friendly" personal agent that requires no technical background, capable of handling a range of complex tasks on behalf of users, such as online shopping, drafting and sending emails, and itinerary planning. Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has repeatedly expressed his desire to create a more user-friendly AI agent to help users proactively accomplish various tasks, and now this vision has finally been realized.

Meta Muse has its own dedicated app and official website, with more powerful functionality than the previous Meta AI assistant. It can independently handle complex tasks, requiring users only to set a goal, after which Muse will help devise a personalized plan, coordinate time and resources, and automatically execute the tasks. The specific tasks it can accomplish depend on how much access the user is willing to grant.

Muse Has Strong Personalized Task-Handling Capabilities

Muse supports integration with Meta's own applications as well as third-party services such as Google Workspace, Ticketmaster, OpenTable, Spotify, and Apple Health. For example, users can have Muse sift through food videos they have saved on Instagram and Facebook, compile them into a readable recipe list, and then automatically generate a shopping list, compare prices, and complete the purchase. If a third-party platform provides an open interface, Muse can even establish a connection on its own.

Meta AI Product Vice President Vishal Shah stated that Muse is an extremely capable AI product, and since it can write its own software, it is theoretically not limited in terms of functionality. All users need to do is gradually get accustomed to granting it more permissions and clearly inform it what is more important to them.

Meta's Emphasis on Privacy Protection

However, entrusting so much of one's personal digital life to Meta's AI clearly requires a well-established privacy protection mechanism. Meta claims to have built-in multiple layers of security: Muse will confirm with the user before sending emails or completing purchases, while low-risk tasks can be executed automatically. From a technical standpoint, each user's Muse agent runs in an isolated virtual environment, ensuring data security through mutual isolation. Despite this, Meta also admits that AI agents may still make mistakes, but the company believes that thanks to the built-in security system, the frequency and impact of errors will be significantly reduced.
