Meta has recently launched an application called Waddle World, which combines virtual pets with AI-assisted diary features. Currently, this free app is available only in select regions for iOS and Android users, and users must be at least 18 years old.
Users can hatch a 16-bit pixel-style virtual pet in the app and care for it through feeding, interaction, and mini-games. Mini-games include catching stars, stacking groceries, and word puzzles, with completion earning stamps for pet interaction. Meta describes the app as "a diary disguised as a pet."
Waddle World app offers diverse interactive features
In addition to pet care gameplay, users can narrate their daily experiences through voice or text, and the app will then use AI to generate diary content in the pet's voice, accompanied by doodle illustrations. The app store page does not specify the exact AI model used for these features. Meta states that as usage time increases, the virtual pet will notice what improves the user's mood and what causes fatigue, and will reference these in future interactions.
The app also provides daily questions to help users determine what to share; weekly email postcards may also reference information previously mentioned by users. Meta indicates that the app does not impose pressure for continuous check-ins or point competitions, but positions itself as a gentle diary habit tracking tool, encouraging daily interaction.
Regarding privacy, Meta's submitted app store privacy disclosure indicates that the app may collect audio data and other user content, linking this information to user identities. This information is categorized under third-party advertising as well as developer advertising or marketing purposes.
