Meta has acquired AI programming startup Conductor. The company's product allows users to deploy multiple agents in parallel workspaces, enabling rapid software project development. Meta founder and CEO Charlie Holtz stated on Wednesday, "I have big news: Conductor is joining Meta." He added, "We have some grand and crazy plans for the next interface," and hinted at "new things" for customers to use early next year.
On X, Holtz also expressed excitement about working with Meta's Chief AI Officer Alexander Wang and the head of the Superintelligent Lab (MSL) product team, Nat Friedman, saying, "They are making great strides, and I believe MSL has the highest talent density among all labs." Meta confirmed the acquisition to TechCrunch but declined to comment further and did not disclose transaction details.
Meta Acquires Conductor to Strengthen Its AI Capabilities
Conductor was founded in 2024, and its core product was officially launched last summer. Its agent teams can be deployed in the cloud, on-premises, or accessed via users' mobile devices, designed to allow software engineers to handle relatively independent modules of a project while also collaborating effectively. Notably, the agents running on the platform are not proprietary but come from major labs such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and others.
Holtz stated that Conductor's core functionalities will continue to operate as they have until early next year. The only exception is the cloud service: this service will be shut down on November 20, after which the company will begin deleting users' cloud data, and users who need to retain content must migrate it themselves in advance.
