Google has recently introduced the Gmail Live feature, aimed at enhancing the search experience in Gmail by allowing users to search their inbox using conversational voice commands. This feature was announced at last month's Google I/O conference and has now officially launched following testing. Gmail Live allows users to ask questions in natural language, such as "What is my flight's gate number?" or "What events does my child's school have this week?" Gmail Live will quickly scan the user's inbox and provide relevant answers, enabling users to avoid sifting through lengthy email threads.
Google Expands Gmail Live Feature to Other Applications
In addition to Gmail Live, Google has extended similar functionality to other applications, such as Docs Live and Keep Live. Docs Live allows users to tell Gemini the type of document they want, extracting relevant content from Gmail, Drive, Chat, and the broader web to generate initial drafts and assist users in adjusting the tone. Similarly, Keep Live can transform users' spontaneous thoughts into organized notes, helping users capture, structure, and refine their ideas.
Google mentioned in a demonstration video that users can say, "I promised my son I would paint his room this weekend... I need a checklist and the materials required." Keep Live responds, "Preparing your painting notes," and generates the necessary shopping list and instructions. These new features will be rolled out this week in Gmail and Keep, but are limited to Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers, while the Docs feature is available only to Pro and Ultra subscribers.
All features will also be "coming soon" to Google Workspace business customers.
