On October 27, the Korea Airports Corporation announced the official launch of an AI robot valet parking pilot service at the underground Level 1 parking lot of Gimpo Airport's international terminal. After users park their vehicles in a designated area, the robot lifts the car and automatically transports it to an available parking space, returning it to the pickup area when users request their vehicle back.
The service operates on a reservation basis and is open daily from 10 AM to 5 PM during the pilot period, excluding nighttime hours. The Korea Airports Corporation stated that it will study extending service hours based on user demand and flight schedules. During the pilot period, the robot valet parking service is free, but users are still required to pay standard parking fees.
AI Robot Valet Parking Service Will Enhance Parking Efficiency at Gimpo Airport
Users can make reservations through the Korea Airports Corporation's official website, the Smart Airport app, or by scanning the QR code on on-site posters. After completing mobile identity verification, users must fill in their vehicle information and planned entry and exit times. Users will park their cars in the designated area at their reserved time, and after submitting a parking request at a self-service terminal, the robot will automatically park the vehicle. Once parked, a notification will be sent via KakaoTalk. When retrieving the car, users can also make a request at the self-service terminal. If retrieving the vehicle outside of service hours, users must drive to the parking space themselves.
Currently, the size of vehicles eligible for the AI robot valet parking service is limited, with a maximum length of 5.25 meters, a maximum width of 2.15 meters, a maximum height of 1.85 meters, and a maximum weight of 2650 kilograms. Some large sedans and SUVs are not eligible, and users must confirm their vehicle specifications during the reservation stage.
