Gemini Spark Adds Google Photos Control, Supports Automated Editing and Sharing

Google's personal intelligent agent Gemini Spark now officially supports Google Photos, becoming the latest first-party application to be operable via natural language commands. Users can instruct Spark to execute multi-step workflows, including searching, organizing, editing, and sharing photos and videos, with the entire process automated by the agent without the need to manually switch interfaces.

Gemini Spark currently supports Google Photos actions across five main categories. For searching and organizing, users can locate specific photos and videos by theme, location, date, or activity, and request that Spark filter the best images and remove duplicates. For editing and creation, Spark can quickly enhance image quality, apply correction tools, and generate collages or stylized images; all edits are saved as new copies in Google Photos, leaving the original files untouched.

For creating and managing albums, users can instruct Spark to create new shared or private albums and store the organized images in them. For sharing albums, Spark can add or send album links via connected applications like Gmail, Google Docs, and Messages. For scheduling automation, users can set up recurring tasks, such as automatically creating a monthly highlights album or categorizing receipt images for archiving. For text extraction, Spark can extract text from specified images, summarize or reformat it in Google Document, and perform subsequent tasks based on that information.

Practical Applications Include Daily Organization and Cross-Application Collaboration

Users can combine Google Photos' exclusive features with Spark's scheduling and background management capabilities to create automated workflows. One example is setting Spark to automatically find the best food-related photos every weekend, create a collage, and add it to a new album named "What my camera ate this week." Additionally, users can instruct Spark to extract information from images and send it to other connected applications, such as viewing promotional images for a local summer concert and comparing them with Google Calendar events to determine which night they can attend.

Other examples of multi-step commands that can be executed seamlessly include: finding the best 15 photos from last week's Hawaii trip, enhancing the quality of beach photos, placing them in a shared album named "Aloha 2026," and drafting an email with the link; finding the best photos and videos from a recent community party, creating a new shared album named "Summer Block Party," and drafting an email with the link for the neighborhood group; and brightening recent beach vacation photos and storing them in a new album named "Beach Therapy."

Privacy Protection Includes Multiple Confirmations and Limited to US Subscribers

For security and privacy, Gemini Spark creates a copy of the image before editing to ensure the original file is not overwritten; new albums are set to private by default. Before performing actions like sharing albums and sending emails, Spark will seek explicit user consent before proceeding. This feature will be rolled out over the next few weeks to Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the US, with no announced timeline for other regions.
