Former Anthropic Core Products Lead Cat Wu Joins OpenAI as Product Manager

On November 5, former Anthropic Core Products Lead Cat Wu announced on social media platform X that she has joined OpenAI as the Product Manager for the Core Products team. She previously worked at Anthropic for about two years, leading the product development of Claude Code and participating in the development of products like Cowork. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman subsequently retweeted the announcement, welcoming Cat Wu to the team.

Cat Wu stated that when she first joined Anthropic, Claude Code was merely an internal tool, and she was involved in its development from an internal prototype to its official commercialization. She mentioned that she concluded her work at Anthropic last Friday and expressed gratitude to the Claude Code team and its users. Regarding her upcoming work at OpenAI, she expressed a desire to collaborate with the product management team and other employees to develop intelligent products that can assist individuals and teams in their work while ensuring users always retain control.

Cat Wu Will Oversee Product Management for OpenAI's Core Products Team

According to reports, after joining OpenAI, Cat Wu will be responsible for product management within the Core Products team and will collaborate with the Enterprise Products team led by Nick Turley and the Consumer Products team led by Ashley Alexander, reporting to Thibault Sottiaux. This personnel adjustment also places her within OpenAI's core product management structure, where she will participate in the development of ChatGPT, Codex, and related intelligent products.

Cat Wu joined Anthropic in the summer of 2024, initially working on Claude Code. In February 2025, Anthropic launched Claude Code in a research preview format, with Cat Wu appearing alongside the product's initial creator Boris Cherny during the launch presentation. As the product matured, Claude Code evolved from a command-line tool aimed at developers to an AI programming product capable of handling tasks such as code writing, modification, and debugging.

Cat Wu also became one of the key figures in Anthropic's external promotion of Claude Code.
