Key points
  • Elon Musk to join X Takeover virtual interview at Giga Texas.
  • This event marks the first X Takeover held outside California and inside a Tesla facility.
  • The event is independently produced by Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, with tickets selling out in eight days.
  • Fans unable to attend in person can watch the livestream on X.

Elon Musk will take part in the X Takeover event at Giga Texas in Texas this Saturday and conduct a live virtual interview, according to information shared by Sawyer Merritt on Thursday evening. Musk will not appear on stage in Austin. The conversation will be streamed free on X via the @teslaownersSV account. Organizers are keeping expectations in check. In a September update, Tesla Owners Silicon Valley noted that Musk had appeared at the event twice before but did not guarantee a third appearance, even though fans hoped he would walk the Giga Texas floor in person.

The virtual interview echoes 2024, when Musk gave a surprise interview of roughly an hour in San Luis Obispo, according to Teslarati at the time.

Event held at a Tesla facility for the first time

This year's event is a first in several respects. It is the first X Takeover held outside California and the first inside a Tesla facility, with tickets selling out in eight days. Tesla is providing the venue, but the event is independently produced by Tesla Owners Silicon Valley. The main program runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central Time, followed by a drone and light show at 9 p.m. Maye Musk will deliver a keynote, Franz von Holzhausen will give a virtual keynote, and Nicki Minaj will appear as a special guest.

Elon Musk interview topics undisclosed

Joe Tegtmeyer, whose drone footage Teslarati used to track the steel framework of the Optimus factory at Giga Texas, is also on the speaker lineup. Musk's interview topics have not been disclosed, but the backdrop is busy. Tesla doubled its Cybercab fleet in Austin at the end of September, and last week Musk explained why Robotaxi operating hours were extended only from 10 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Merritt also reported Thursday that Texas DMV records now show 319 registered Cybercabs, up from 169 previously. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has set an Oct. 30 deadline for Tesla's sworn responses on Cybercab certification, while Tesla will report third-quarter earnings on Oct. 21. Fans unable to travel to Austin can watch the livestream on X. Musk tends to be more forthcoming in informal settings than in prepared remarks, which is reason enough to tune in on Saturday.

The impact of Elon Musk's virtual interview

Elon Musk's virtual interview event not only draws significant fan attention but also underscores Tesla's influence on social media platforms. The event's uniqueness lies in its location inside a Tesla facility and its first staging outside California, which could further expand Tesla's fan base. Moreover, with the Cybercab fleet expanding and an earnings report on the horizon, the interview offers a key exposure opportunity for Tesla's future development.
