Deezer will introduce a new feature by the end of the year that allows users to filter out AI-generated music through a toggle option, addressing the issue of the overwhelming amount of AI music on streaming platforms. Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier stated, "We have seen a clear demand from users to filter out AI-generated music. We are now giving every user the option to completely remove this type of content and focus on human creators and their works." According to a study by Deezer, nearly half of music streaming users want to completely eliminate AI-generated music from their music recommendations.
Deezer to Launch Feature for Filtering AI-Generated Music
A recent study reported by NPR shows that listeners' aversion to AI-generated music is growing, particularly when these platforms are flooded with low-quality content. Deezer reported last year that about 18% of uploaded tracks were AI-generated, and this figure has now risen to over 50%. The company stated that 90,000 fully generated tracks are uploaded daily, resulting in a cumulative total of over 42 million low-quality songs.
These "artists" are engaging in digital games, hoping that among the hundreds of tracks they upload daily, at least one will gain attention and generate revenue. Additionally, there is an issue of fraud. Deezer reported that up to 85% of the plays for AI-generated songs are fake. Deezer has an advantage in this area, as it has launched one of the industry's first AI music detection tools and has offered rental services to competing streaming platforms. This toggle option is a natural next step. Although the detection system is not foolproof, the company stated that the risk of false positives is "very low."
As for other platforms, YouTube Music has introduced a label related to AI-generated tracks, while Spotify is also implementing similar measures on AI artist pages.
