Blind masseuse Cao Wenwei has successfully developed an accessibility learning support system using SenseTime's AI office assistant, Xiao Huanxiong, to provide more assistance to visually impaired students in their learning. This innovative system was officially launched on October 15, 2026, during International White Cane Day, aiming to raise public awareness of the rights of visually impaired individuals.
Cao Wenwei runs a massage shop for the visually impaired and translates educational materials for visually impaired students in his spare time. However, many educational materials lack electronic or Braille versions, and some electronic materials are not compatible with screen reading software, making the translation process cumbersome and time-consuming. To address this issue, Cao Wenwei began using Xiao Huanxiong to organize educational materials, significantly improving translation efficiency.
Establishing the Accessibility Learning Support Program
With the help of Xiao Huanxiong, Cao Wenwei was able to turn his ideas into a concrete learning support program. Through multiple rounds of dialogue, Xiao Huanxiong clarified needs and assisted Cao Wenwei in establishing the workflow for the Guangqiao AI Accessibility Learning Support Expert Team. This workflow divides learning support into several stages, including needs analysis, student situation analysis, and individualized education plans, ultimately generating learning materials and teaching suggestions.
While participating in the capability challenge of Xiao Huanxiong, Cao Wenwei utilized the AI's image understanding capabilities to have it describe the content of his presentation page by page, assisting him in revising the presentation and ultimately winning a silver medal in the national finals.
The Impact of AI Technology on the Visually Impaired
Cao Wenwei is also actively sharing the usage of AI tools within the visually impaired community, helping more visually impaired individuals access new technologies. He emphasizes that accessibility is relevant to everyone, as situations such as aging or injury can affect people's ability to access information. He states that for the average person, AI may simply be an enhancement, but for those with disabilities, AI is more like a lifeline.
The Guangqiao AI Accessibility Learning Support Expert Team is now available on the desktop version of Xiao Huanxiong, allowing the public to download and experience it, providing support for students with special needs.
