Anthropic has officially announced the launch of Enterprise Frontier Safeguards (EFS), a solution that combines Zero Data Retention (ZDR) privacy with advanced abuse detection safeguards. EFS operates by storing data in cloud infrastructure controlled by the customer, rather than by Anthropic. EFS will be rolled out to customers in phases, with plans to begin later this fall. To ensure a smooth transition, eligible customers will receive ZDR support for Fable 5 and Fable 5.1 before EFS is ready.
EFS Designed with Customer Needs in Mind
Anthropic stated that EFS was developed in close collaboration with over 100 customers from the financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, telecommunications, legal, retail, and public sectors, and was co-designed with cloud partners Amazon Web Services, Google Cloud, and Microsoft Azure.
Addressing the Challenges of Frontier Security
According to the official statement, as the intelligence and autonomous capabilities of Mythos-class models like Claude Fable 5.1 significantly increase, so do the potential risks of misuse and autonomous misbehavior. Anthropic mentioned that in recent months, it has observed substantial evidence of AI model misuse, including scams and sophisticated cyberattacks, which may involve the theft or improper use of enterprise customer credentials. These behaviors are difficult to detect without monitoring traffic and detecting anomalies.

Therefore, Anthropic began introducing a 30-day data retention policy with Fable 5. This policy is not motivated by a desire to train on enterprise data, as Anthropic has never used enterprise data for training without explicit permission and will not do so in the future.
Customers Control Data Storage and Management
With EFS, customers can control the storage and management of their data. Customers want the ability to store data in infrastructure they control and use their own encryption keys, access policies, and audit logs. The activity data used for monitoring can be stored in the customer's own cloud account, such as Amazon S3, Azure Blob Storage, or Google Cloud Storage.

Customers want protection against cyberattacks and recognize that these attacks are very difficult to detect if they span multiple sessions and accounts. EFS's automated systems analyze rolling traffic windows to detect signals of serious abuse, including attempts to develop offensive cyber or biological capabilities, as well as signs of stolen or leaked credentials. These alerts will be sent directly to customers for their teams to handle, without the need for Anthropic staff to manually review them.

Enterprise Frontier Safeguards will be rolled out to customers in phases, with the goal of widespread availability this fall. If customers wish to apply for access to EFS, they should fill out the relevant form. Anthropic emphasizes that using EFS will not change model behavior, API pricing, or rate limits, and will not incur additional charges for customers.
