Anthropic has officially announced that as Claude's capabilities in scientific research continue to advance, the company is focusing on creating products and programs to support the research community. In June, Anthropic launched Claude Science, a product that integrates the tools most commonly used by researchers, capable of generating auditable results and providing flexible access to computational resources. The company is also expanding its AI for Science program, offering free credit to researchers working on high-impact scientific projects.
Introducing New Claude Team Plans to Support Scientists
Starting today, Anthropic announced a significant expansion of these efforts, opening up 10,000 seats globally for scientists to access Claude subscriptions for free or at a discounted rate for one year. Standard seats will be provided for free, while premium seats will be available for $15 per month with 5x the usage limits. Over the coming months, the program will expand beyond the initial 10,000 seats.

Expanding the Scope and Scale of the AI for Science Program
In addition to these subscriptions, Anthropic is also expanding the scope and scale of its AI for Science program. To date, the program has primarily supported scientists using Claude for bioscience research. Now, Anthropic also plans to provide credit to researchers in other scientific fields, including those engaged in computationally intensive research, such as making progress on the Riemann ζ function and Claude's work in protein design.

To register for the Claude Team program, researchers need to fill out a verification form. Applicants must be the principal investigator or equivalent at an academic or non-profit research institution; once verified, they can add researchers from their lab to the program. As labs use their allocated credit and need more usage, researchers can apply for the AI for Science program, with each project eligible for up to $50,000 in credit. Any researcher can apply.

Currently, researchers working in biology and chemistry are still restricted to Opus-class models. The Claude Fable model will continue to block professional biology and drug development queries due to potential dual-use risks. Anthropic has begun recruiting its first participants and expects to share more information and expand access.
Launching an Independent Research Grant Program on AI's Impact on User Well-being
Additionally, Anthropic has launched a $5 million grant program to fund independent research exploring the impact of AI on user well-being.
