Anthropic Expands Partnership with GSA, Offering Discounts on Claude Products for Government Agencies

Anthropic officially announced the expansion of its partnership with the U.S. General Services Administration (GSA), providing government partners with a 40% discount on Claude Enterprise, Claude for Government, and Claude API through a new agreement. This discount applies for the first time to all products, including direct purchases by agencies and purchases through cloud service providers in the coming months.

Discount Covers All Levels of Government

Under the new agreement, this discount also extends to state, local, tribal, and territorial governments. Anthropic stated that the agreement aims to support government agencies in applying Claude to solve complex problems without significant upfront investment amid tight budgets and lengthy procurement cycles.

“The discounts from this agreement are expected to save the government $1 billion.”

Launching Dedicated Programs to Enhance Claude's Effectiveness

Anthropic will also launch dedicated programs to help government agencies effectively implement and fully utilize Claude's capabilities. These programs are widely used by private sector clients, and Anthropic hopes to bring these best practices into the public sector.

“Currently, about 500 federal, state, and local government agencies in the U.S. are using Claude, operating some of the nation's most critical systems.”

Use Cases of Claude in Government Agencies

Government agencies are utilizing Claude to address their most pressing challenges, including managing backlogs, records, and forms, as well as modernizing legacy code. For example, Utah provided Claude Code to 34 developers across 10 state government agencies, with 80% of developers establishing a working environment within 30 minutes, and 71% reporting savings of over 20 hours of work during a four-week pilot.

“A state chief information officer confirmed that their team was able to respond to a ransomware attack in 8 minutes, whereas it typically takes 2-3 days.”

Additionally, a U.S. federal security team used Claude Mythos to detect and patch a vulnerability that could have led to the takeover of critical production systems, taking only about two days, which had gone undetected in a human penetration test conducted a month earlier.

Claude's Security and Compliance

Government agencies can use Claude for their most sensitive non-classified work. Claude for Government offers capabilities similar to commercial products and meets FedRAMP High authorization levels. Agencies can access Claude through Amazon Bedrock or Google Cloud's Vertex AI and obtain authorization under FedRAMP High.

“Government agencies can purchase Claude through GSA's multiple award programs at OneGov discounts.”

Regardless of whether a department or agency has already used Claude, Anthropic's public sector team will assist in discussing their options.
