Anthropic expands Cyber Verification Program to enhance cybersecurity capabilities

Anthropic officially announces the launch of an expanded Cyber Verification Program (CVP), aimed at providing eligible security professionals with advanced cyber capabilities and reduced blocking classifiers. The program now includes three access tiers, allowing security teams to apply for the most suitable access level based on their work needs.

Tier structure and functions of the Cyber Verification Program

Under the latest program, the models available to security professionals include Claude Opus 5.5, Claude Sonnet 5.5, Claude Mythos 5.1, and future new models. The program's design accounts for the dual-use nature of cybersecurity, as the same capabilities can help security teams find and fix vulnerabilities, but may also be exploited by malicious actors. To this end, Anthropic's generally available models have conservative cybersecurity safeguards to block most cyber work.

"Our goal is to give defenders the best tools and most powerful capabilities to protect their systems."

Requirements and functions of different access tiers

The program's three access tiers are Defense Access, Red Team Access, and Specialized Access. Defense Access is primarily for defensive work, including security operations center and incident response tasks, with eligible organizations including security teams from companies, non-profits, universities, and government agencies.

"We expect many organizations conducting defensive cybersecurity work will qualify for this tier."

Red Team Access adds authorized penetration testing and red team operations, with eligible organizations including internal red teams and government red teams. Specialized Access targets a small number of verified organizations authorized to test security systems that could impact human lives or markets.

Program impact and future outlook

Anthropic states that through the Cyber Verification Program, partners discovered at least 129,000 verified software vulnerabilities from April to July 2026. These changes aim to extend the impact of Project Glasswing to more cyber defenders and continue efforts to protect open-source software and critical infrastructure.

"We will continue to improve tier-based classifiers to safely provide advanced cyber capabilities to a broader range of defenders."

Interested organizations can apply to join the Cyber Verification Program on the official website, where all applicants will be verified and required to provide proof of required security controls during the application process.
