Agility Robotics launches new humanoid robot Digit 5 with ultra-fast charging technology and up to 20 hours of operational time
Key Points
  • The battery system of Digit 5 can charge in nine minutes, providing 90 minutes of runtime.
  • The new robot is designed to operate for 10 minutes per minute of charging, enhancing operational efficiency.
  • Agility Robotics aims to provide over 20 hours of productive operational time.
  • Nyobolt's technology allows Digit 5 to operate in demanding environments, meeting high standards.

Agility Robotics' next humanoid robot aims to increase daily cargo delivery time while reducing charging time. The company has selected Nyobolt's battery technology, setting Digit 5 with over 20 hours of productive operational time, and plans to achieve this goal within 24 hours. The new system is designed to provide 90 minutes of runtime with a charging time of nine minutes. Robots equipped with this technology are expected to offer early access services to the manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution sectors in the first half of 2027.

This battery upgrade aims to address the practical challenges faced by commercial humanoid robots: ensuring that robots can operate for extended periods to make deployment worthwhile while minimizing downtime for charging.

Battery System Enhancing Operational Efficiency

The battery system of Digit 5 charges in nine minutes, aiming for a 10:1 runtime-to-charging ratio, compared to the 2:1 ratio of Digit 4. This means the new robot is designed to operate for 10 minutes for every minute of charging. Agility states that this improvement will support more than two full work shifts daily, helping customers maximize the utilization of their robot fleets. “For our customers, the operational uptime of Digit is where the business value lies,” said Agility Robotics' Chief Business Officer Daniel Diez.

“Digit 5 will provide over 20 hours of productive work within 24 hours, exceeding two full shifts. This enhancement significantly increases the value customers derive from Digit and the economic benefits of deploying humanoid robot fleets,” he added. “Nyobolt's ultra-fast charging technology enables us to achieve this goal, which is part of preparing Digit 5 for full operational capability.”

Technical Challenges in Demanding Environments

Small battery packs face challenges in demanding environments. Nyobolt's high-power battery technology combines fast-charging design with a focus on cycle life and system weight reduction. For Digit 5, the goal is to provide more energy from a smaller, lighter battery pack while meeting industrial environment demands. “Nyobolt's technology was chosen because Digit 5 needs to extract more energy from a smaller, lighter battery pack in environments where reliability cannot be compromised,” said co-founder Sai Shivareddy. “Agility has set extremely high standards for the demands that batteries must withstand in on-site warehousing and manufacturing environments, and this collaboration demonstrates the potential when ultra-fast charging technology is applied in the most challenging physical AI environments.

”

These companies view the reduction of charging time as a way to support longer operational times and more demanding task sequences. The announcement did not specify battery capacity or provide numerical cycle life ratings. Agility recently introduced Digit 5, its first humanoid robot designed for safe collaborative work, capable of operating in close proximity to humans. Following initial early access in the first half of 2027, availability is expected to increase over the next six to nine months. Agility is also preparing for a public listing through its previously announced merger with Churchill Capital Corp XI.

The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the merged company operating under the name Agility Robotics and trading on Nasdaq under the ticker “AGLT.” For customers, the planned rollout is the next step in applying Digit 5's battery performance to commercial operations.

Commercial Potential of Ultra-Fast Charging Technology

Agility Robotics' Digit 5 robot, through Nyobolt's ultra-fast charging technology, significantly enhances runtime and efficiency, which is crucial for commercial applications. As robotic technology advances, the demand from businesses for extended operational times and reduced charging interruptions is increasingly urgent. This technology not only improves the utilization of robot fleets but also provides customers with greater economic benefits in a competitive market. The launch of Digit 5 marks a step towards higher performance and reliability in humanoid robots, potentially transforming operations in logistics and manufacturing.
